From jumping on people or (and?) counters, stealing things, not coming when called, dashing out the door, pulling on the leash, ignoring your commands and even freaking out when they see people, dogs, bikes, etc, our "membership-style" training programs are designed to give your the help YOU need to have the dog you've always wanted.
Can we help hyper dogs be calm? YES
Can we help dogs who are wild on walks to walk nicely next to you? YES
Can we help dogs that lunge at anything that moves? YES
Can we help with potty training and household manners? You BET!
Can we help YOU be more calm and have more fun? YES
Can we help with socializing your dog (and you)? YES
And we can do much more, too! We have tons of fun training activities to help keep you motivated and learning in new situations all the time.
Our programs have been compared to a gym membership (only way more fun!) as you pay the flat fee, then have access to everything included in that program. What do you think, should I call it a membership instead?
Following is the basic foundation of our membership that are available to all:
PRIVATE LESSONS - IN PERSON, BY PHONE, ON ZOOM throughout your program where you'll learn all of the basics of training for calm and cooperative behavior plus how to appropriately socialize YOUR dog as the individual she is. You'll learn why some skills are more important than others. This is where we prepare for...THE GROUP!
In addition to teaching rules, our training strives to get to the ROOT of your dog's behavior, is he hyper vigilant because he's afraid? Or because he wants to be the fun police? Is he barking at the other dogs because the best defense is a good offense or because it's FUN? You get the idea... the fix is different in each case and I want every human leaving with a real understanding of their dog and why we're training her differently than the dog they're standing next to.
WHO YOUR DOG IS, MATTERS.
That said, some things just have to stop. no matter what; if your dog is showing behavior that's dangerous to him, you, your living situation or others in your community, THAT'S our first priority. And by living situation I mean driving you crazy. Once we have a handle on that, we will move on to things that are important but not critical and that's where the fun starts!
We address your dog's EMOTIONS (and yours, honestly - most of the people we see are nervous about their dog's behavior at some level and need help to learn how to relax and enjoy) and the dynamics around things and people - is your pup nervous? That may be why she doesn't seem food motivated. Is your dog a tough kid who wants to be in charge of everything? Maybe you are setting each other off? Let's figure it out.
- I am 100% AGAINST micromanaging so teaching them to handle their emotions is critical!
*Your dog should be able to just stand with you if you're on a walk and stop to talk to someone WITHOUT constantly being told what to do and without being given a command to... for instance, Sit for the duration - that's micromanaging.
*Your dog conquering things that were scary or doing things slower because you said so will increase his bravery and confidence.
I want dogs to learn to just BE GOOD without constantly being told what to do.
I want dogs to not run out the door or gate if it's left open.
I want dogs to be a happy and cooperative member of the family, not the FOCUS of the family.
I want you to stop having to REACT to everything your dog does and start to enjoy spending relaxing time with her.
Yes! your dog can CHILL at the door, yes settle the heck down in the living room, stop jumping on the counters, stop pulling on walks! Stop cleaning the dishes in the dishwasher, COME IN the house when I call you! Your dog will be "easy to talk to" and responsive when you want them to leave your guests alone, will walk down the street at your side but not that silly, staring-in-your-face walk - I want your dog to be able to look at the world and just not be bothered by it.
GROUP CLASSES - where we throw you into the deep end after you've got the basics so you can start having FUN with your training while you conquer distractions and triggers - a variety of group classes designed to help you master calm even in really distracting and fast moving situations, just like things happen in real life. Nothing worse than thinking your dog is trained, then he sees something startling and loses his mind.
PLAY GROUPS (IF APPROPRIATE) SUPERVISED play with screened dogs I trust (this is not appropriate for all dogs).
REAL-WORLD WALKS - THIS is what it's all about. Taking a walk through downtown Los Gatos and Mountain View and in a busy park in Palo Alto. We encounter real struggles with kids, bikes, dogs, balls, the works - THIS is what your dog must be able to do.
GROUP BRUNCH AT A DOG FRIENDLY RESTAURANT - no host brunch or on the first Saturday of every month so we can practice being the BEST dog! We often will have 10 or more people and dogs at a giant table. It may sound intimidating but when you and your dog can do this, you're going to be SO HAPPY!!!
ALL of the elements of what we do work together to get you to our goals; they are all important and that's why they are ALL INCLUDED in your program.
Our goal is not just to teach your dog to look away from what bothers him but to have it STOP BOTHERING HIM. We work on replacing his knee jerk reactions with CALM and confident indifference, following your instructions.
